Beyond what we say - mixed messages and their transformative gifts...

Dear Reader,

We're in the final stretch! Our upcoming conference Diverse States of Getting Along is happening THIS Friday 22 and Saturday 23 August – and we're buzzing with excitement about the conversations and connections that await.

To wrap up our series of research inquiries from our presenters, we're thrilled to introduce you to Process Work diplomate Grzegorz Zielinski, who will be presenting on Saturday.

His session is called "Beyond What We Say: The Golden Potential in Mixed Messages" – and if you've ever wondered why your actual conversations never quite match what you rehearse in your mind, this one's for you.

We asked Grzegorz the question that's been driving his work, and here's what he shared:

"How can we transform the mixed messages in our communication from obstacles into gateways for deeper connection and authentic expression?"

"Mixed messages are at the heart of my work as a Process Work therapist. Rather than seeing them as mistakes or misunderstandings to be corrected, Process Work recognises they often contain the parts of ourselves, our relationships, and our experiences that we've marginalised or aren't yet conscious of. But here's what I find most compelling about the Process Work approach - these mixed signals aren't just revealing rejected parts of us, they're also showing us emerging directions, processes that haven't yet fully developed into our awareness.

There's a particular moment in my own life where a mixed message expressed a future I couldn't have dreamed of at the time. The fact that I'm presenting at this conference and living in Australia is actually the outcome of following that process. I'll share more about this personal example on Saturday.

In my practice, I've seen how rich the potential becomes when we notice and skillfully welcome these mixed messages - whether working with clients or in our relationships. Instead of trying to control or correct them, Process Work teaches us to amplify them. It can be tricky and requires openness to mystery, but I believe everyone can develop this basic skillset if they're willing.

There's also an ecological aspect to this work. When we reject parts of our experience - our beliefs, dreams, feelings - they don't simply disappear. We're all interconnected in one dreaming field, and those rejected parts will find expression through our bodies or through others, sometimes without conscious awareness. Learning to welcome our mixed messages is learning to work with the wholeness of who we are."

Dear Reader, This month's newsletter focuses on 'the calling': how we support ourselves to listen to, focus on, and unfold the signals arising within and around us. But let’s start with a word on why this can be hard. Most of us have stayed with a familiar path at some point, even while quieter signals were suggesting another. In many ways it's deeply human. The known track feels safe, and our communities and larger systems often settle into well-worn tracks too. Sometimes those tracks...

Dear Reader, Spring is nature's own celebration of diversity, a riot of new colours, shapes and forms all emerging together, each different, each essential to the whole. And so too with our upcoming programs that we are delivering in spring and summer! This newsletter is focused on skills to support diversity because diversity lies at the heart of Process Work. It begins with the concept of Deep Democracy, the listening and valuing of all parts, knowing that different energies all have their...

Dear Reader, This month’s newsletter is inspired by poetry. The poet’stask is simple. He looks for quiet, and speaks to whathe finds there.David Whyte, Excerpt from The Poet So we invite you to become a poet for a moment. What do you hear in the quiet? In your body? In the world? In your relationships? In your dreams? What do you find there? Make a few notes. We begin by slowing down, seeking quiet so we can hear more clearly. We can consider other types of listening too – listening to tiny...
