The shade at the bottom of the garden

Dear Reader,

This morning as I sat down to write this newsletter, I didn’t know where to begin. My mind was already buzzing, but not with anything substantive. And so I turned to a very simple Process Work exercise to guide me. As a person who lives my life using Process Work, I no longer worry about not having ideas – there is an endless source that is ever present in nature :)

My eyes landed on a tree at the bottom of my garden. Slightly off to the side. I trusted this and stayed with it, and got curious about the qualities of this tree. It’s not the sort of tree I usually look at, it's not front and centre. It stands amidst other trees, and I realised in it’s own, quiet, off-to-the-side state, it’s healthy and lush. As I observed it more closely, a chicken wandered out from underneath. It provided a lovely shade from the heat.

These days sometimes it feels like our attention is constantly being co-opted – flashy things placed in front of us at a constant speed – look here! Do this! Buy this! Help this cause! The sheer breadth of what we get exposed to is mind boggling. It’s no wonder people feel more disconnected and exhausted than ever.

It dawned on me that the practice of Process Work is not the big flashy thing at the front of your attention.

It’s the quiet, lush and healthy shade off to the side.

Process Work gives you a practice to listen deeply and follow signals – natural signals coming forward pointing towards purpose and depth in a world of shallow distractions. The breadth of application of Process Work can make it hard to explain sometimes, however that’s also its strength – because at its heart, it is an awareness of depth experience – one that tunes into to what is emerging for wherever its being practiced.

You might go into a Two year Process Work Study program for example, wanting to hone skills for your organisational role. That’s your primary motivation. And make no mistake, you will get those skills. But what it additionally offers is that you will also get the skills to tune into what is coming forward for you, whether you intend it or not. That is something that other courses don’t provide. So in talking about our programs, on one level we can speak to you about the upfront skills you will get and use, and that’s all on the website – take a look, there’s a lot in this program! But this second piece, the tools to listen, notice, follow and unfold what its being called for in the moment – whether it be in you, your relationships, or your groups, that’s the true jewel of Process Work.

If shade and nourishment to follow what’s emerging is what you seek – Register now for the Two year Process Work Study Program starting in Melbourne next year. There’s a wonderful cohort waiting for you to join.

A big shout out to Colleen Clarke and Bec Lang who created and held this experience - we are thrilled to be offering it again in 2027.

So wherever you are, we invite you to take a breath and a moment to notice what is a little off to the side. And enjoy what it offers you.

Dear Reader, This month's newsletter focuses on 'the calling': how we support ourselves to listen to, focus on, and unfold the signals arising within and around us. But let’s start with a word on why this can be hard. Most of us have stayed with a familiar path at some point, even while quieter signals were suggesting another. In many ways it's deeply human. The known track feels safe, and our communities and larger systems often settle into well-worn tracks too. Sometimes those tracks...

Dear Reader, Spring is nature's own celebration of diversity, a riot of new colours, shapes and forms all emerging together, each different, each essential to the whole. And so too with our upcoming programs that we are delivering in spring and summer! This newsletter is focused on skills to support diversity because diversity lies at the heart of Process Work. It begins with the concept of Deep Democracy, the listening and valuing of all parts, knowing that different energies all have their...

Dear Reader, This month’s newsletter is inspired by poetry. The poet’stask is simple. He looks for quiet, and speaks to whathe finds there.David Whyte, Excerpt from The Poet So we invite you to become a poet for a moment. What do you hear in the quiet? In your body? In the world? In your relationships? In your dreams? What do you find there? Make a few notes. We begin by slowing down, seeking quiet so we can hear more clearly. We can consider other types of listening too – listening to tiny...
